Introducing Bootstrap for ASP.NET MVC

Jul 10, 2015

Twitter Bootstrap is one of the most widely used CSS frameworks at the moment and there is a massive supporting ecosystem in themes, components, tutorials and the likes. Since Visual Studio 2013, the standard ASP.NET project template has also been based on Twitter Bootstrap. The framework itself has also grown quite large over time and inevitably contains a lot of excess CSS classes which you do not use in your applications.Bootstrap is undoubtedly one of the most popular front-end frameworks for developing responsive, mobile-first web apps. Booststrap offers a number of UI components and jQuery-based JavaScript plugins to create web apps that work seamlessly on any device.

In Visual Studio 2013, the Bootstrap NuGet package is included with the ASP.NET project templates, including WebForms and MVC. It's a great way to ensure new web projects have great, mobile-first styling out of the box, but you can use it much more effectively with just a few tweaks. The Bootstrap NuGet package comes with the bootstrap.css file, that was built using Less source files. Less is a powerful CSS pre-processor, extending the CSS language to include features such as variables and functions.
