Microsoft Sharepoint : An Extension for ASP.NETMar 12, 2015
SharePoint is a Web application platform developed by Microsoft . SharePoint is a web based collaboration tool built using ASP.NET . SharePoint has historically been associated with intranet content management and document management is often used to store and track electronic documents or images of paper documents. SharePoint isn't a replacement for ASP.NET. It's an extension of the ASP.NET platform that simplifies the implementation of several common use cases that are mostly relevant to enterprise websites: document management, knowledge retention, collaboration etc... SharePoint relates to ASP.NET in a similar way that Word press relates to PHP: it's a specialized extension rather than an alternative. It really depends on what sort of application you are building. Sharepoint is extremely feature rich - especially Sharepoint 2007 which has blogs, wikis, etc, etc. If you are looking for a large, enterprise portal which provides many out of the box web parts and allows you to create sites and extra pages whenever you need them and offers full searching features then you'd definitely go for Sharepoint.
